Protocols

Appointments:  Main Campus Writing Center appointments are face-to-face in the basement of Carlson Library. Law School writing tutoring is located on the second floor of the Law Center in Suite 2008, Office A. Health Science Campus tutoring is located in Mulford Library room 420. Engineering Campus tutoring is located in Nitschke room 1016.

Schedule Options: There are six schedules to choose from: an Undergraduate schedule, a Graduate schedule, a Law School schedule, a Health Science Campus schedule, an Engineering schedule, and a TRIO SSS schedule. Only select the schedule that is appropriate for your status as a UT student.

Online Tutoring: Undergraduate students can use a free service through the OhioLink Consortium called E-Tutoring in which you can submit your paper and recieve feedback from writing tutors at one of the participating colleges or universities in Ohio. Online graduate students can send an email to writingcenter@utoledo.edu to set up an asynchronous session (feedback via email within 2-3 business days) or a synchronous session (real-time online session via Blackboard Collaborate).

Walk-In Tutoring:  Walk-in tutoring is available on the Main Campus of UT Monday to Friday 3PM-5PM during the Fall and Spring. No appointment needed; just come down to the Lower Level of Carlson Library.

Account Disabled: If you get a message that your account has been disabled, it is because you have been marked as a no-show for at least 3 appointments. You must contact the Writing Center Coordinator, Olivia Zolciak, to have your account reactivated: Olivia.Zolciak@UToledo.edu

Cancellations: You must cancel your appointments or you will be marked as a no-show. To cancel, simply click on your scheduled appointment and click on "cancel this appointment" at the bottom of the appointment form. This allows others to be able to schedule for this time slot. You can cancel an appointment any time up to 30 minutes before your scheduled time, but the cancellation function is disabled within 30 minutes of your appointment, so please cancel as early as possible.

Appointment Durations: Appointments are limited to 30 or 60 minutes, depending on the assignment length; please note that tutors will not spend the whole 30 or 60 minutes with you (more realistically they will spend 25 - 50 minutes with you). They must allow themselves time to summarize the session with you and complete your tutor report before their next appointment.

Please note that you will not get through a 10-20 page paper in one session; these projects require more time. Since the writing center does not simply edit your work, a couple one-hour appointments should be sufficient for discussing such projects.

Contacts: The Writing Center leadership team can be reached at writingcenter@utoledo.edu. Olivia Zolciak, Writing Center Coordinator, is able to assist you with Writing Center questions or concerns: Olivia.Zolciak@UToledo.edu
